What I'm Loving: Winter 2018 + Spring 2019 Edition

If we haven't seen you in person lately, life has changed for Rick and I. I've left my position and become a stay at home dog mom to Scout. Rick has taken a new position as well, so there's been plenty of changes.  Some of these changes include us looking for a new church home, celebrating a wedding, organizing and creating our house into a home, buying a new laptop after mine crashed, and reaching some of my goals like accomplishing my 30 Things for Year 30 list. It's been an amazing two and a half months since the changes began. I'm so glad God knew better than we did when we started praying about this long before we told anyone.

Eating + Drinking

EATING everything bagels from New York Deli and Coffee Shop or better known as The Bagel Shop to me and most of Houstonians. I hadn't been here for years but I've been craving an everything bagel for a few months. Rick and I decided to go spend a morning grabbing coffee and bagels there after I told him about it. It was just as heavenly as I remember (and the 4 bagels I ate seems to have at least curbed my cravings for a bit).BREWING more pots of coffee with my Mr. Coffee Coffee Maker instead of using my Keurig since I've been home in the mornings thanks to me being a stay at home dog mom now. I love the simplicity of the routine that goes with putting Scout outside, choosing and grinding coffee beans, turning on the brewer, and letting the aroma of coffee fill the air. I've loved savoring the Britt Coffee I brought back from Costa Rica last year when we went. If you're looking for new coffee, try their Tarrazu blend or the Poás blend.SEEING Rick get back into brewing beer has been one of my favorite things from this spring. When we were dating, he told me about how he used to brew beers and ciders, but since we've been together he has never brewed anything. I love seeing him go deeper into a hobby that he adores.

Listening + Watching

LISTENING to Melissa Explains It All: Tales from My Abnormally Normal Life by Melissa Joan Hart on audiobook. (Thank you public library!) She has been one of my favorite actresses since I met her on Clarissa and then fell in love with her as Sabrina on Sabrina the Teenage Witch, one of my favorite TV shows growing up. I had no idea that she had written a book so the second I saw it, I knew I'd be reading it. I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially since she reads it. If you love Melissa Joan Hart or any of her work, you're bound to enjoy this read. It's my favorite thing I've read in 2019 so far.REWATCHING Brooklyn 99, because I absolutely love the 99. I can't stop laughing at old episodes that over the years I've forgotten about. All of the distinct characters that make up this quirky precinct from Captain Holt to the duo of Scully and Hitchcock are what makes this team so lovable. Their holiday episodes are spot on, especially the Halloween Heists which are some of my favorite episodes.THANKFUL that a friend recommended that I watch Crazy Rich Asians. I loved it and texted her as soon as it was over. It is a story that is right up my ally and it was beautifully produced. I can't wait for the second movie to come out in 2020. Until then, I'll be reading the trilogy.SETTLED in for a night in the winter, I sat down with some pizza rolls to savor a quiet home and decided to watch To All The Boys I've Loved Before on Netflix based on the Jenny Han novel by the same title. Lara Jean's life sucked me in, and I was not at all sorry. I've watched it again with Rick since watching it that initial night I saw it. It currently has a permanent spot on my list because I know I'll be watching it again some time soon.LAUGHING about the antics of the characters on The Good Place. This show is so witty and well done with tiny nods to jokes within the show that I really love. I am a sucker for intentionality in things like shows, movies and books and every detail is perfect in this show.

Playing + Enjoying

BEING evil in Villainous. If you haven't seen this creative board game by Disney, you have missed out. It's such an interesting twist as the player becomes legendary villains such as Captain Hook, Ursula, Jafar and more.  All of the villains have different goals to complete while thwarting other villain's on their path to their own goals.LOVING the advent of summer. It is my favorite time of year and I'm so excited to get my patio cleaned up so that I can sit out and watch Scout sunbathe while I write or read out there. I strung up my hammock already and spent a large chunk out there reading. It was pure bliss. Oh, Summer how I have missed you.

Reading + Learning

WISHING that 100 Days to Brave, a devotional by Annie F. Downs, was longer than just the 100 days. It was such a good way to start off my year by focusing every day on my 2019 word of the year, BRAVE. Bravery and believing in myself is something that I've always struggled with, but I'm working really hard to combat this year. This devotional gave me such a great foundation of dwelling on what God has to say about being brave.BECOMING more disciplined through starting new routines and giving myself grace to use what has worked in the past, even when it's things like a chore chart.
